Safety Concerns for Children Bicyclists

Top five tips for kids’ bike safety
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
  • With perfect spring weather comes bike-riding. If your child is learning to ride or an avid cycler already, consider a few simple safety precautions to prevent injuries.

Local attorney and avid cyclist, Alvin Wolff, Jr., has written a newly-released book, “The Total Guide for Motorcycle & Bicycle Accident Victims in Missouri,” and shared these five safety tips for parents of children who enjoy riding their bikes.

1. Be sure your child wears a helmet approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

2. Your child should be supervised by an adult at all times and not riding alone until he or she has demonstrated mastery of road rules.

3. The bike needs to fit the child and be in proper working condition.

4. Even the youngest bike rider should be familiar with the rules of the road for bike safety.

5. Your child should know the boundaries for where it is safe and where it is unsafe to ride.
