What do you and your opponent do when you go back into the judge's chambers and you leave your client in the courtroom?

A: Usually we are discussing procedural issues so that whatever happens in the courtroom proceeds smoothly.  Recently, I had a client think that because I was in the back with my opponent, we were somehow in cahoots.
Getting along with your opponent is not a bad thing.  Honey attracts flies better than vinegar.  Should I not get along with my opposition, a tough job already becomes unbearable.   As long as communications between parties counsel is respectful and trustful, unpleasant matters to begin with, stay miserable rather than horrible.

This is a difficult and emotional job for everyone involved.  Getting along makes it bearable.
