Steamboat Springs Bicyclist Wins Settlement Against Railroad

A Steamboat Springs man, injured while approaching some railroad tracks in downtown Steamboat Springs, Colorado, recently settled his injury case against Union Pacific Railroad.  The injury occurred in the part of the road just in front of the tracks that was full of road base but which was not properly flagged or marked, contrary to local ordinances and state law.  There was quite a paper trail discovered pointing responsiblity toward the railroad that was gleaned from the Steamboat Springs City Streets department.

Under the law, an area under construction , requires markings and warnings.  This area had none.

The man sustained facial and teeth injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
