The Top Five Vital Signs To Watch After Surgery

Blood pressure-low blood pressure is an indication of internal bleeding.

PT/PTT/INR-helps assess the body's ability to clot or bleed

Intake and output-these are significant in identifying bleeding

sp02-oxygen saturation should be above 90% .  O2 deprivation could alert to breathing problems or looming brain damage from inadequate oxygen supply.

creatinine/BUN-tells you how well the kidneys are working.  Creatinine measures the amount of waste in blood and urine.  BUN measures the amount of nitrogen (which comes from waste) is in the blood.  This can indicate how well your kidneys are working , how the heart is functioning or other problems.

Hospitals are notoriously understaffed or staffed with inexperienced workers.  Pay attention.  The vital signs that you are watching may save your life or somebody elses.  Just another set of eyes and ears to watch over and protect yourself and the people you care about.
