A recent story in the St. Louis Post Dispatch recounts how a doctor lost his hospital privileges but managed to keep his record clean. When confronted in the past about a dangeours doctor and asking about why he remains on staff, I was told by the risk manager that:'He makes us a lot of money,"
Money, the driving force behind many health care institutional decisions. Fear of being sued, another driving force.
Consequently, since the institutions won't accept accountablility, lawyers like me have to pull the bus with a lawsuit until something changes. It's hard work; it's frustrating; it's sometimes rewarding, but you'll never get justice on your own.
These institutions are unwilling or unable to just say: "we made a mistake", pay up and move on. They'd rather put up a chinese wall.
Recently, I asked the number two person at the hospital where my client suffered a serious, disabling and disfiguring leg injury if losing the entire anterior calf muscle was a permanent injury. Mind you, this lady had 11 years under her skirt as a critical care nurse. Her sickening and sad reply was: "I don't know."
This is what we deal with and we overcome in representing malpractice clients. If we can help you, call us at 314-584-4109.
