A recent study shows that tort reform in the state of Texas has not lowered the cost of health care, nor led to an increase in doctors practicing in the state.
I'm writing this from the South China Sea. I've been in Vietnam for 4 days having been to Saigon and Na Trang. I'm seeing this country 35 years after U.S. Forces left and it's a very progressive country that is still poor. The people are friendly and tourism seems to be the wave of the future. We're in a place that is surrounded by two hundred islands. Yesterday we visited 3 of them and we went diving on one of the islands. The reefs look healthy and there are thousands of colorful fish. The Vietnamese are industrious and hard working. There are no fat Vietnamese people and there is no fast food here except for an occasional McDonalds or KFC. Today we start a 5 day bike trip and head to the hills. It's great to take a break. Will give me a new perspective when I return to work.

This is an amazing clip about what it's like to be a trial lawyer and some of the stuff we have to put up with.
Power Balance, LLC Admits Bracelets Have No Scientific Backing
Power Balance, LLC recently admitted to an Australian court that their Power Balance bracelets don't have “credible scientific evidence” supporting their claims. Sometimes it is important to categorize wrongful death damages as economic or non economic. St. Louis Wrongful Death Lawyers have to grapple with these difficult topics.
Elevator Accidents in Missouri
Most people fail to realize that elevators are mechanical pieces of equipment. We take for granted when we walk into an elevator and push a button that it is going to take us to our destination without fail. However, that is not always the case. There are instances when the elevator will mislevel causing someone to trip into the elevator or to fall out of the elevator from an elevated platform.
There are instances where an elevator cable has been known to snap causing the elevator car to unexpectedly plunge to the pit below causing traumatic injury and death. There instances where the elevator may not have been maintained properly causing the elevator car to rise or descend without warning. There were also instances of the elevator doors closing unexpectedly trapping its victim and causing significant injury.
There are also rare instances when the elevator doors will open, and an unsuspecting rider, without looking, enters what should have been an elevator car waiting for him. Instead, the elevator doors open and there is no car and the person plunges to their death below.
In many instances of elevator accidents, the attorneys who represent the property owners, the maintenance companies and the property management companies routinely try to put the blame on the person who was entering or exiting the elevator for causing their own injuries. It's the old “We didn't do it, and if you had been more attentive, this never would have happened."
Any time elevator accidents occur, it is extremely important for the attorney to obtain as much information as quickly as possible. This includes obtaining photographs of the elevator as well as the control mechanisms and structures that house the elevator. When a lawsuit is brought, one of the key records that an attorney looks at are the maintenance records for that particular elevator. We look to see when the elevator had last been maintained and serviced and whether there were any complaints or problems that the maintenance company knew about or should have known about.
Elevator accidents usually result in significant injuries or death with extended hospitalizations and surgery should the person survive the fall. A victim of an elevator accident needs to consult with an experienced attorney immediately to preserve evidence and begin an investigation into the root cause of what happened.
Here's a story about how important it is to get a case early. You may call lawyers who do what I do ambulance chasers or worse. Getting a case early may mean getting crucial evidence before it is gone. A lot of what happens in a case can disappear like footprints in the sand when the tide changes.
I received a call on Saturday from a prospective client who told me her mother died in a car wreck just 12 hours earlier. I thought that this was weird but agreed to meet the family on Sunday. Mom had died when her car was struck by a speeding car being chased by the police and which ran a red light. Several minutes later the car burst into flames and she was burned alive!
Getting the case early helped me contact local businesses in the area and low and behold: there was a surveillance camera that had recorded the whole event. Had there been a delay, the video of the event would have been erased over a period of days.
A video of this tragedy will make the case worth a lot more money to the harmed family members. Thsi may sound crass but all I can do is get money for my clients to fix and make up for the harms suffered.
Early is better than latter in hiring a personal injury lawyer. We know what needs to be done and we can do it while you're taking care of what you need to do.
Recently I was on KSDK news about the water prices at Verizon. The point I was trying to make is not that water is expensive. $4.50 is a lot but that raising prices when it is hot out is somewhat unethical. The venue can charge whatever it wants. This is capitalism. However, it,was so hot that my temperature rose when I was told that the water price went up due to the heat. I felt is was necessary to expose this practice. I guess they'd sell air if they could.
I'm 55. When I was a kid, firecrackers were fun. Bottle rockets were fun. They probably still are but my reflexes aren't as fast as when I was 12. I get my kicks from fireworks now from a distance. If you or your kids are playing with fireworks over the next few days, make sure that you practice and teach safe handling techniques. No blown off fingers, hearing loss or blindness please. Have a happy and safe 4th.
